Sharjah Cricket Stadium
The Sharjah Cricket Stadium is located in Sharjah in UAE (United Arab Emirates). It was built in the year 1982. It was very quickly turned into a regular venue for tournaments since the attraction ODI cricket exploded following a World Cup victory of India in 1983. The Sharjah cricket stadium hosted 198 one day internationals between 1984 & 2003 including four test matches as well. This sports ground at first started with a small number of limited seating and ultra-modest facilities. But by the year 2002, it turned into hottest cricketing venue with total seating capacity of 27,000. It has floodlight facility to host day-night matches as well. The two main ends of the grounds are Sharjah Club End and Pavilion end. But when match-fixing disgraces began to materialize in 1990s, the star of Sharjah began to diminish. In the year 2001 the government of India banned the Indian team to play at this ground. At the request of local cricketing benefactor ‘Abdul Rahman Bukhatir’ in 2010, the ‘Sharjah Cricket Stadium’ became the local for the national cricket team of Afghanistan in ODIs as well as First-Class games. This ground has also faced the worst time due to match fixing allegations.
